American actress and singer born Frances Ethel Gumm in Minnesota in 1922. A child vaudeville performer with her sisters, she signed with MGM as a teenager and became a star as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, singing Over the Rainbow. She later starred in Meet Me in St. Louis, Easter Parade and A Star Is Born, gave a legendary concert at Carnegie Hall and died in London in 1969.
