Baked British pudding in which sliced fruit…
Baked British pudding in which sliced fruit, often the Bramley variety, is covered with a rough topping made by rubbing flour, butter and sugar together until it resembles coarse sand, then baked until golden. It is widely said to have become popular during Second World War rationing, as it needed less fat and flour than pastry. Rhubarb and blackberry versions are common. It is served hot with custard or cream.
