British fashion designer born in Derbyshire in 1941, a former primary school teacher. With Malcolm McLaren she ran a shop on the King's Road in London, later renamed Seditionaries, which dressed the Sex Pistols and shaped the look of punk with bondage trousers, safety pins and ripped tartan. She later drew on historical costume, reviving corsets, crinolines and platform shoes. Made a Dame in 2006, she died in December 2022.
