British sitcom written by John Cleese and Connie Booth and broadcast on BBC Two in 1975 and 1979, across just twelve episodes. Set in a Torquay hotel, it follows rude, snobbish owner Basil, his formidable wife Sybil, capable waitress Polly and Manuel, a hapless waiter from Barcelona. Farcical episodes involve a visit from German guests and a dead body in a bedroom. It regularly tops polls of Britain's finest sitcoms.
