Carnivorous plant native only to wetlands in North and South Carolina in the United States. Each leaf ends in a hinged pair of lobes fringed with stiff bristles. When an insect or spider touches the trigger hairs inside twice in quick succession, the leaf snaps shut in a fraction of a second. The plant then secretes digestive juices to absorb nutrients missing from the poor, boggy soil where it grows.
