Italian fashion designer born in Reggio Calabria in 1946, who learned sewing in his mother's dressmaking workshop. He moved to Milan and presented his first women's collection under his own name in 1978. Known for bold prints, baroque motifs, metal mesh and a Medusa head logo, he dressed rock stars and helped create the supermodel era. He died in Miami Beach in 1997, and his sister Donatella became creative director.
