Survival horror series launched by Capcom in 1996 and directed by Shinji Mikami, known in Japan as Biohazard. The first game trapped special forces members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in a mansion near Raccoon City, overrun with zombies created by the Umbrella Corporation's viral experiments. Later instalments introduced the rookie policeman Leon Kennedy and over-the-shoulder combat. The franchise also inspired a long series of live-action films starring Milla Jovovich.
